Recreational - Coaching
Over 175 coaches are needed. We value good sportsmanship and setting a good example for the kids. Playing experience is not required. Volunteers are subject to club approval and a background administered by OSA at club expense.Your child needs you to volunteer. Please indicate your level of coaching interest on your player's registration form. Whether you're eager to coach or willing only as a last resort so your child can play, please let us know now so we can get teams and schedules formed on time. If we are short on coaches, we must dissolve the team and add the players to a waiting list.
Prior to and during each season, NYSA holds free coaching clinics to assist (or refresh) coaches on how to instruct the fundamentals of soccer. We also have coaching handbooks with plenty of exercises and ready to use sessions. Additionally, the Director of Player Development (DOPD) and Recreational Director are available to coaches of all levels during the season to run a session with your players and answer any questions. If you're a former coach and your player has moved on to the Academy or Competitive program, please consider volunteering to coach or assist with a Recreational team. Coaches are selected based on a number of factors, including having a player on the team, previous experience, training obtained, and recommendations/complaints.
NYSA encourages coaches to get Youth Module I or Youth Module II training within their first year of coaching and gives preference to those who make this effort. In most cases, NYSA will reimburse coaches for passing the YM1, YM2, E license, and D license level courses. Contact the office prior to taking the course for more details. For more information about coaching certification, visit the OSA website.
Contact the NYSA office if you have any questions or need additional information regarding coaching
